The Central Epidemic Command Center raised the domestic COVID-19 alert to Level 3 on May 19th, and announced various preventive measures, including restricting family gatherings and social gatherings with 5 people or more indoors and 10 people or more outdoors (except for those living together), implementing Name/Contact Info Registration, maintaining social distancing, etc. Anyone who violates the relevant provisions for pandemic prevention can be fined not less than NT$60,000 and not more than NT$300,000 in accordance with Subparagraph 1 of Paragraph 1 of Article 37 and Subparagraph 2 of Paragraph 1 of Article 67 of the Communicable Disease Control Act.

On May 18th, the Taoyuan City Government notified local hotels and hospitality industries that the bars, karaoke, saunas, swimming pools, Internet cafes and other facilities that belong to the specific industries must be closed. However, the public is more concerned about the possibility that some travelers may turn to motels for gatherings after the closure of the specific industries, and cause an infection control breach. In order to ensure that the hotel operators implement the relevant preventive measures, the city government has arranged inspections of 69 local motels in its jurisdiction starting from May 20th; those with large suites, bars, karaoke, saunas, swimming pools, Internet cafes, etc., are prioritized for inspection to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.
